This weekend was tragic, whether in France, with five deaths, and among its neighbors. The floods here in Switzerland were two deaths, two women killed in the landslide in the canton of Ticino in the south. Research is continuing to find other potential victims.
In Italy, there has been another landslide in which a 70 year old man and his granddaughter 16 years died. A "sea of mud" swept their house in Cerro, a village near Laveno Mombello, a popular tourist destination. In one month, 11 people died due to weather in the region. Lombardy, Liguria and Piedmont are affected.
Here in Milan, schools are closed due to flooding, and the inhabitants are poor:
"They promised to do something and nothing is done, said one woman. What do you do? Remain locked with us? "
Southeast of France had been particularly affected by bad weather Friday and Saturday. Gard, a mother and her two children, ages 1 and 4 years, were killed when their car was swept away by the waves.
