Rosetta mission: good night, Philae

Philae The module is asleep Saturday on the comet tchouri. Lack of sufficient sunlight, the battery of the lander was exhausted after 57 hours of labor and 500 million kilometers from Earth. Data sent by Philae still need to be analyzed by scientists at the European Space Agency.

ESA still considers his mission as a success. Philae notably produced a drilling ground for more than 25 cm, a first. Chemical analysis should provide a better understanding of planet formation and the emergence of life. Comets would contain indeed the basic elements that were used in the formation of our solar system, there are 4.6 billion years.

Arrival in the banlieure of "tchouri" last August, ten years after leaving Earth, Rosetta will meanwhile continue to fly the comet. Its mission is to last until December 2015.
