In Romania, Klaus Iohannis won the presidential election last night, creating the surprise at the Social Democrat Prime Minister Victor Ponta.
In Bucharest, there were about 10 000 to book a hero's welcome to the winner. The polls predicted the opposite result, but it is the mobilization of young people who probably made the difference. The turnout in the second round is 62%, a record for Romania. The mobilization was particularly strong abroad, among expatriates.
Victor Ponta conceded defeat, while excluding resign from his position as Prime Minister before the legislative elections of 2016: "I want to thank all Romanians who voted, I would say that the people are always right. I called Mr. Iohannis and I congratulated him on his victory. Me and my colleagues, as we will be in office, will continue to perform our duties for the country "
Romanians criticize Victor Ponta a stranglehold on justice, while many social democrats are being investigated or charged for corruption. His coalition has even attempted to provide a super immunity to elected officials.
