The second round of the presidential election in Greece has resulted in failure for power. Stavros Dimas, the candidate supported by Prime Minister Antonis Samaras could not be elected by members. He received 168 votes while it would have taken him at least 200.
A third and final round will be held on 29 December.
The head of government had proposed last Saturday to bring independent pro-MEPs in his government if he supported his candidate.
If the 3rd round is a failure, then the Parliament will be dissolved and elections will be held, probably in early February. The party of the radical left SYRIZA, which rejects austerity measures winner is given by the latest polls.
