Burkina Faso: Michel Kafando appointed transitional president

After a night of negotiations, Burkina Faso has chosen a transitional president. This is the diplomat Michel Kafando, former foreign minister and ambassador to the UN. He should remain in office until elections scheduled for November 2015.

His candidacy was proposed by the army, which took power after the departure of Blaise Compaore under pressure from the street.

Two weeks after the president's departure, the military will step aside to make way for a civilian government.

The current strong man from Burkina Faso, Lieutenant Colonel Isaac Zida will have fulfilled its commitments to the African Union.
