Libya: Parliament ruled unconstitutional by the Supreme Court

Parliament elected in June had already been forced to take refuge in Tobruk in the east, when Tripoli fell to the militia considered close to the Islamists. They took control of national institutions, including the Supreme Court, which casts doubt on the impartiality of the decision.

"This ruling means that what Parliament, based in Tobruk called, has become something of the past and its decisions have no meaning," said the lawyer Abdelrahman Alkeesah.

Tuesday and Wednesday, gunmen seized the oil field el-Charara in the Southwest of the country. The facility was closed after the attack shows the government's inability to ensure control of the oil infrastructure.

The militiamen who took this summer control of Tripoli gathered under the name "Libya dawn." They restored the old parliament in the capital and formed a parallel government, plunging the country a little more into chaos.
