D-Day for independence in Catalonia

Consultation on the symbolic determination of the Catalans held today, despite the ban Madrid. It is organized by the regional government led by Artur Mas, who voted in Barcelona.

This consultation has no legal value, no electoral commission or voters.

Two questions are listed on the ballot as follows: "Do you want that Catalonia is a state?" And if so, "Do you want it to be independent?" Potentially, some 5.4 million people may respond including young people from 16 years and foreigners.

Proponents of non-independence campaigned against participation in this consultation, as "illegal and undemocratic."

Participation is a major challenge for independence. They hope it will put them in a strong position to negotiate a true self-determination referendum.

The results are expected Monday.
