Russia: a celebration of National Unity to emphasize pro-Putin

Russians celebrated on Tuesday the party of National Unity. This holiday commemorates the expulsion of Polish forces in the Kremlin in 1612. This year, over 70,000 people attended the main parade in central Moscow. A parade to emphasize pro-Putin, amid tensions with the West about Ukraine.

However, other events were held, the traditional "Russian march" ultra-nationalist demonstrations in support of the Ukrainians.

"The Russians show they are Russians, that they, and nobody else, masters of their country and their country. Like this, the people who come here feel like guests and treat us with respect. That's all we want to show, "said a participant in the Russian March.

"We took to the streets to assert our rights, those enshrined in the Constitution, says another. And we also support the Ukrainian people, because it is a Slavic people, like us, and we're glad they overturned Yanukovych. "

President Vladimir Putin, however, has remained behind these gatherings. It is merely a discourse legitimizing the Russian position towards the West and calling for unity Russians face "difficult challenges."
