Italy: L'Aquila scientists acquitted on appeal


Six experts earthquakes had been sentenced to six years in prison there two years in the first instance, to have underestimated the risk of the earthquake of 2009. Yesterday, they were acquitted on appeal. Only exception to the general acknowledgment, the deputy director of Civil Protection, Bernardo De Bernardinis, was sentenced to two years in prison for the death of some victims. The judges will provide the reasons for the verdict in 90 days. The usual procedure in Italy.


April 6, 2009 an earthquake ravaged this city in central Italy, killing more than 300 people dead, tens of thousands homeless, and billions of euros of damage.
