Demonstration in Rome against the mayor and immigration

The event brought together about a thousand people, including right-wing activists and residents of poor neighborhoods where many immigrants live.

Some hours earlier, Friday night, visiting the mayor of Rome, Ignazio Mariono in the Tor Sapienza area had gone wrong.

For several days this popular area is shaken by the violence around a refugee reception center

For Eraldo Afinati, Italian teacher for foreigners, it is actually a "war among the poor" and it is "not just that the authorities intervene only in the suburbs in an emergency."

The situation escalated in mid-week, when a migrant reception center for refugees have been targeted by local residents and far-right activists.

For safety, the authorities evacuated the younger refugees to another reception center.
