Clashes around a refugee center in Rome

Violence erupted Thursday in Rome around a refugee center between local residents and immigrants. The police had to intervene in the poor neighborhood of Tor Sapienza hosting since February 83 migrants accused by some of the locals to be the source of renewed crime.

"We must face our own crime and now also the one that comes from abroad, that's enough, 'said the resident. Violence, theft, in broad daylight, they hit people coming out of the bus. "

For their own safety, authorities evacuated refugee minors to another reception center.

Carlotta Sami, spokesman for the UNHCR Italy condemns the violence and calls political leaders: 'Our leaders refuse to look things in the face, to see the situation as it is, to implement projects integration that really help the refugees and the local population should welcome these refugees. "

The first violence erupted Wednesday night when, according to several sources, migrants have been targeted by right-wing activists.
