Vanuatu cyclone swept by Pam

In the Pacific, the Vanuatu archipelago has been swept by Hurricane Pam, one of the most violent in recent years with wind gusts exceeding 300 km / h. No official figures could not be disclosed at this time, but the UN says it has reports of dozens of deaths on a remote island.

Given the extensive damage in the capital Port Vila, the authorities fear a very high number of victims, particularly in disadvantaged areas. There are reports of entire villages swept away completely and small isolated islands following the breakdown in communications.

The UN is preparing to deploy by tomorrow emergency rescue teams, but they are not safe to be able attenir in Vanuatu, because the wind always blows. The airport remained closed Saturday.

The hurricane could have significant consequences for the economy of the archipelago.
