Iraqi forces feel free Tikrit within 72 hours

Tikrit could be released within two or three days, announced on Saturday a spokesman of the Iraqi forces, who say now control half of the city, the other half still under control of a few dozen fighters from the Islamic State Group (EI).

Located 160 kilometers north of Baghdad, Tikrit fell in June in the hands of jihadists, like Mosul, the second largest city in the country, probably the next target of Iraqi forces.

The army, supported by police and Shiite militiamen, seemed to wait for reinforcements in the last hours before continuing its progression. She slowed down by snipers and especially by the many explosive devices placed by the fighters of the Islamic State in the streets of Tikrit. Air raids help eliminate the last pockets of resistance.
