The day after the crash of the A320 Germanwings which cost the lives of 150 people in the French Alps, 72 Germans and fifty Spaniards,
Francois Hollande, Merkel and Mariano Rajoy went near the scene of the tragedy.
Francois Hollande and German Chancellor arrived in the early afternoon by helicopter Seyne-les-Alpes few miles from the crash site. They were joined by the Spanish government leader Mariano Rajoy arrived by road.
The three European leaders by turns praised the police and emergency mobilized since yesterday, before giving a joint press conference broadcast live on television.
"We expect to German victims but also those of other countries. This is a tragedy and our presence here shows again, "said German Chancellor.
"We will work together and we will be at the height of the circumstances in such a difficult and complex event that are experiencing the families of the victims," for his part said Mariano Rajoy.
"The people here in French is by your side in this event. As it is with regard to all countries that are frapppés, over fifteen had nationals who were in the plane, "said Francois Hollande.
In their speeches, the three leaders also stressed the European and human solidarity which is dear to them.
