The EU and Cuba want more dialogue

"We want the political momentum expressed during this visit will result in the signing of an agreement."

The European Union and Cuba want to accelerate the pace of discussions, with a view to normalizing relations, possibly by the end of the year.

This is the conclusion of the meeting on Tuesday in Havana between Cuban President Raul Castro and the head of European diplomacy, Federica Mogherini.

"We must strengthen our dialogue, said Ms Mogherini at a press conference. This does not mean that we are not satisfied with what has been done so far, but we want the political momentum spoke at the meeting, during this visit, that resulted in the signing of an agreement " .

Cuba is clearly at the heart of attention because the same day the head of Russian diplomacy was visiting also in Havana. Sergey Lavrov reiterated the close strategic relationship between the two countries, historic allies during the Cold War.

Geopolitical lines begin to move, especially since the United States and Cuba have started last December after decades of tension.

The US president wants the lifting of the economic and financial embargo imposed by Washington for over 50 years. The decision is up to Congress.
