Hurriedly leaving Yemen Tuesday, US diplomats have abandoned their cars at the Sana'a International Airport. Since the vehicles were seized by the Houthis militiamen who control the capital. These Shia claim to have done so to prevent the car from being looted, and they promise to return the vehicles. But to whom?
All Westerners evacuated their nationals. There is no longer president or parliament. The envoy of the UN is working to organize political consultations in a highly divided country.
Houthi Shiite militia holds part of the territory, while the Sunni fighters of Al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP) control other areas.
"We are witnessing the collapse of Yemen," warned Thursday the secretary general of the UN. Ban Ki-moon is concerned about the risk of a humanitarian crisis that could affect millions of civilians.
