The famous Egyptian activist Alaa Abdel Fattah was sentenced to five years in prison Monday by a Cairo court. He was convicted of violence against police officers during an unauthorized protest last November. He appeared with twenty other defendants, who also sentenced to imprisonment and a heavy fine.
Figure of the anti-Mubarak revolt, Alaa Abdel Fattah had already been sentenced in June to 15 prison, but the verdict was pronounced in absentia which allowed the accused to a new trial.
The opposition sees behind this sentence is another example of repression by Abdel Fattah al-Sissi protest against the regime.
