France: tense protests against police violence


Nantes and Toulouse this weekend have been the scene of protests that turned violent. A thousand people in Nantes, 500 in Toulouse, marching against police violence and for "defending zones", set around the airport of Notre Dame des Landes and dam Sivens. Both projects crystallize tensions in France for months. Tension rose a notch last October 26 with the death of Rémi Fraisse, Sivens killed by a grenade fired by the police.


It is also in his memory that militants had gathered on Saturday in the French cities.


But two hours after the start of the march the police dispersed masked demonstrators. 16 police officers were injured in Nantes two protesters were hospitalized. There were 25 arrests
