2.164 people away Libyan coast were rescued yesterday by the Italian rescue services quoted by the transalpine media.
A vast operation was carried off the Italian island of Lampedusa, a few tens of nm only the Libyan coast.
The operations were coordinated by the Italian coast guard and carried out by Italian units with the support of cargos according to AFP and ANSA news agencies.
On Friday, about 600 immigrants on board six dinghies had been rescued 50 nautical miles off the Libyan coast.
