Obama calls for fight as the roots of extremism

"The idea that the West is at war with Islam is a horrible lie" according to Barack Obama. The President of the United States buckled in Washington yesterday a three-day summit against violent extremism in the presence of sixty governments and organizations.

"When people are oppressed, when one rejects human rights, (...), when the opposition is silenced, it nourishes violent extremism. This creates a usable environment ripe for terrorists, Obama said. When peaceful democratic change is impossible, it feeds terrorist propaganda that violence is the only answer available ".

The final communiqué of the White House evokes a "plan of action against violent extremism" adopted by the participants and expected to produce "concrete progress (...) during a summit on the sidelines of the General Assembly UN "in September.

But Republican Representative Michael McCaul, this international meeting was a "top without content."
