Haiti: Carnival bereaved


At least 18 people died in the night of Monday to Tuesday in an accident during the carnival in Port-au-Prince.


One of the tanks hit a power line, causing the electrocution of several people. The tank was one of Barikad Crew, a group of popular rap in Haiti.

This soon led to a panic, and others were then killed in the stampede. There are also dozens injured no one knows the exact number.

The emergency services were activated to evacuate the victims to hospitals d ela capital.


Carnival is the most important cultural event of the year in the country. It brings together tens or even hundreds of thousands of people. The festivities last for three days. This year, they are expected to be completed Wednesday.

"At the moment, we do not know what will happen the 3rd day (carnival) after this tragedy" said the mayor of Port-au-Prince daily .
