Ashton Carter in Afghanistan to discuss the US withdrawal


Journal troops in Afghanistan, the new US Secretary of Defense Ashton Carter, landed in Kabul on Saturday morning.


The successor to Chuck Hagel is scheduled to meet with Afghan officials about the future of the US military presence in Afghanistan.


Following the agreement with Kabul in September, remains today in the country 10,000 US soldiers. Their final withdrawal timetable is uncertain. What is certain is that the end of 2016, after the end of the Obama presidency, they will all be gone.


After thirteen years of turmoil and still alive Taliban insurgency, Afghanistan is not yet stabilized.


The new President of Afghanistan, Ashraf Ghani, received the rare support of Pakistan in its efforts talks with the Taliban.
