To violations of the cease-fire agreement it a week ago, Ukrainian President Poroshenko reiterated its request. From Kiev, and in the presence of the European Enlargement Commissioner Johannes Hahn, he is calling for the deployment of an international force of peace, under the mandate of the UN, while Paris, Berlin, and Moscow want continue the implementation of Minsk agreements.
"We see the need to introduce a contingent of peacekeeping troops to secure the Donbass and control the Ukrainian-Russian border in the areas of Lugansk and Donetsk. A mission of the European Union in the framework of the Common Security and Defence Policy, is the best option for a lasting peace process. "
But Russia does not hear it that way. According to the spokesman of the Foreign Ministry, the peacekeeping force is not necessary:
"Regarding the withdrawal of all heavy weapons along the line of separation, the process will be facilitated by the OSCE with the support of the contact group. Inspectors from the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe are also expected to ensure effective monitoring of the cease-fire agreement. Everything is there, we are convinced that both sides should and can solve every point of the conflict based on the Minsk agreements. "
The United States said they were deeply troubled by the failure of the cease-fire.
