Anwar Ibrahim was sentenced to 5 years in prison for sodomy on one of his former advisers.
The Malaysian Federal Court confirms the decision taken last year by the Court of Appeal against the charismatic leader of the Malaysian opposition.
The legal troubles Anwar Ibrahim began there 17 years. In 1998, he had already been the subject of similar charges. Ousted from the party in power at the time, he remained six years in prison before being released and then bleached.
Anwar has always contested the facts and the charges against him are from the beginning widely regarded by his followers as an excuse to hold their leader away from the political scene.
His supporters gathered en masse in the Federal Court to support their leader, who has made the fight against corruption her pet, but whose political career is now well compromised.
