Egypt: two journalists from Al-Jazeera released


Egyptian Justice released Thursday two journalists from Al-Jazeera television channel, after more than a year of detention.


One of them, Mohamed Fahmy, a Canadian national, was released in exchange for a deposit equivalent to 30 000 euros. The other journalist Baher Mohamed, an Egyptian national, has not had to pay bail. But in both cases, the two men have not finished with Justice: A new trial is expected on 23 February.


These journalists, along with a third, Australian Peter Greste ( ), are accused of falsifying information in order to assist a terrorist organization, referring to the Muslim Brotherhood. Arrested in late 2013, they were sentenced to terms of 7 to 10 years in prison.


The case sparked an international outcry.
