Dieudonné M'Bala M'Bala is again in the spotlight this week. He will be tried Wednesday to include "advocating terrorism" after writing on social networks "I feel Charlie Coulibaly." A phrase posted on January 11, a few days after the attacks in Paris, which combines support for the satirical slogan, "I'm Charlie" in the name of Amédy Coulibaly, the hostage-taker who killed four Jews in particular a kosher supermarket.
His supporters are crying hard, wondering "why Charlie Hebdo, is freedom of expression and not Dieudonné". His critics, they underscore the many provocations and declarations of the controversial comedian who seems obsessed by the Jews.
Tilting the dark side
The man displayed a completely different face, there are more than fifteen years. Born of a Cameroonian father and a Breton mother, Metis became known through comedy duo that formed in the 90s with Elie Semoun. Duo through which they mocked particular one another of their respective Jewish and African origins. Dieudonné then embarked on a solo career, played in movies. He meanwhile also engaged in politics. It has been a parliamentary candidate in Dreux in the Eure-et-Loire to combat the National Front in 1997. But his commitments do not stop there. Dieudonné has also campaigned for greater representation of non-white French on the small screen.
In 2000, he announced he would run for president. But he did not get the sufficient number of sponsorships in 2002.
This is the same year that the changeover to the dark side was felt, especially when the comedian said he preferred "bin Laden's charisma to that of George Bush," a few months after the 11 September that made thousands of deaths in the United States.
Trouble with the law, reconciliation with the FN, "strange ties with Iran"
About equating Jews sect, Nazi salvation on France 3 in December 2003 song "shoahnana", "dumpling", etc. fueled controversy and multiplied the problems with the law. Dieudonné has been convicted nine times in ten years for inciting racial hatred.
Meanwhile, he approached the National Front. He was notably present at the presidential convention of the far-right party in November 2006. Guest on LCI, it is justified as follows: "we must stop demonizing, to say that this man (note Jean-Marie Le Pen, then president of FN) is bad because it promotes a fracture within the Republic. And I am part of this reconciliation: one is black, one is white, one is Arab. "
Later, we also learn its ties with Iran. According to Le Figaro, links exist (...) since at least 2009. On November 21 of that year, Dieudonné M'Bala M'Bala had paid a visit to Iran, during which he met the President of the time, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, known for its anti-Israel positions. "
So Dieudonné will he convicted for advocating terrorism? An offense punishable by up to five years in prison and a 75,000 euro fine.
Last week, the prosecution requested a hefty fine of 30,000 euros against the controversial comedian for comments deemed anti-Semitic, which had resulted in late 2013 - early 2014 on the prohibition of several performances of his show "The Wall."
