In Dublin, a new protest against water billing gathered some 80,000 people according to organizers, half according to local media. This is the fourth gathering of its kind since October.
These Irish oppose a law that puts an end to free tap water. The first invoices should arrive in mailboxes next month, but members of the opposition have urged people not to pay them. Many protesters carried flags of Sinn Féin, the anti-austerity party, and even the colors of the flags of Greece.
Billing running water is one of many measures of the austerity plan implemented by the Irish government to revive the economy.
