Iraq: the archaeological site of Nimrud destroyed by EI


The archaeological site of Nimrud located in the North of Iraq pillaged and destroyed Friday by members of the Islamic state.

The jihadists have bulldozed the remains of the Assyrian city.


This violent attack of Iraq's cultural heritage came a week after those of statues and monuments exhibited in the museum of Mosul.

Rare coins that dated also of the Assyrian era were destroyed and earthed.


The Iraqi Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities confirmed the information and accused the Islamic state of wanting to challenge the world by engaging in this rampage.
