Chile Villarrica volcano eruption


The authorities have declared a red alert to the danger and while this is considered one of the most active of the country and in South America. It is also a popular tourist destination during the summer season that just ended.


The sirens sounded just before the lava flows from the crater, near the city of Temuco, about 800 km south of Santiago.


The evacuation of some 3,000 people was also ordered. Classes were suspended in schools in the region.


"We are afraid because there honestly a lot of heat and very high, it was a strong explosion, very very strong. It was like an earthquake, "said the woman.


"We heard a very intense and constant noise. We went outside to see what was happening, we were very worried because it was cloudy since morning, "said the man.


Chilean President Michelle Bachelet urged people to "calm" and she went on site to coordinate operations.
