Cervantes's remains were reportedly found in Madrid


Researchers believe they have found in Madrid Miguel remains of Cervantes, author of Don Quixote, considered the father of the modern novel. Excavations began in March 2014 in the church basement Trinitarian and allowed to locate the remains of 300 people. Cervantes died there almost 400 years, April 23, 1616.


"In short, after looking at all the historical information, archaeological and anthropological about this case, we can consider that there are fragments of Miguel de Cervantes in the elements found in the floor of the crypt of the Trinitarian convent, said Francisco Etxeberria, director of scientific research team. There are a lot of coincidences and no contradictory arguments ".


The Church of the Trinitarian convent ranked cultural heritage of the city of Madrid since 1921. The religious order of Trinitarians had contributed to the payment of the ransom that allowed Cervantes to buy when he was captured by Barbary pirates and reduces slavery in Algiers.
