The law firm of Alexis Tsipras yesterday presented a bill to put an end to this humanitarian crisis Athens calls after six years of recession, from 2008 to 2013. The text notably plans to provide electricity to the tune of 300 kilowatts per month free of charge to the poorest households, and until the end of the year. 30,000 people are expected to also benefit from housing assistance (from 70 to 220 euros per month), and 300,000 Greeks receive food stamps. Total cost of these measures according to the Ministry of Finance, 200 million euros, thanks to European programs. Greek citizens that border the poverty line will be the beneficiaries of these measures. According ELSTAT they represent 35.7% of the population.
