Turkey: The Power launches new police operations against journalists


Dozens of arrests and searches took place this morning at the Samanyolu television channel and the newspaper Zaman. Two media close to the Muslim cleric Fethullah Gülen. The latter is a former ally of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, with whom he is now in open conflict.


"The free press can not be silenced," chanted the crowd as the director of Zaman, Ekrem Dumanli, addressed her, defying the police to arrest him.


The operation was expected for several days and was justified in the Turkish Prime Minister, Ahmet Davutoglu. "They have been silent on the coup attempts, other parallel attempts. As the AKP is in power, no one will be able to destabilize the unity of this country, no one will be able nor shall have the ability to do so. "


"Attempts parallel" actually referring to corruption investigations that targeted last year employees Erdogan, Prime Minister. Investigations that were under the power "orchestrated a plot against him by Gülen." A crisis that was concluded by a government reshuffle and a takeover of the police and justice by Erdogan.


Fethullah Gülen is exiled since 1999 in the United States. His supporters are not the only ones to denounce Erdogan's autocratic. Reporters Without Borders ranked Turkey 154th out of 180 states for press freedom in the world.
