After the deputies, the Senate also passed a resolution calling for the recognition of the State of Palestine by France. The resolution advocated by socialists, environmentalists and communists, which is nominal, was passed narrowly by 153 votes, mostly from left, against 146, UMP and centrists. The Senate also demanded "a swift resumption" of Israeli-Palestinian negotiations as tensions mounted on the ground with the death of a senior Palestinian official.
