The conquest of Mars with Orion

Successful launch Orion this morning from the base of Cape Canaveral in Florida. This capsule, partly for a test flight around the Earth, is designed eventually to take astronauts to Mars.

So it is both the culmination of eight years of work to NASA and the beginning of a new space adventure for man.

Delta IV Heavy rocket, the largest American launcher, sent into orbit the Orion capsule, which will rise to 5800 km altitude for later down in the atmosphere at a speed of more than 30,000 km / h. This test will measure the resilience of the heat shield of Orion, temperatures should reach about 2,200 degrees.

Next step in 2021: Orion takes two astronauts far away, around the moon.
