Hope of a true cessation of hostilities, finally, Ukraine

The crisis in Ukraine is still the number one topic of discussion at the annual conference of the OSCE in Basel, Switzerland. An agreement for a cease-fire on December 9 was found but everyone now hopes that the same shall be put into effect.

And the OSCE, in fact, have a role to play:

"The role of the special mission of the OSCE will be more important, says Sergey Lavrov, head of Russian diplomacy. It will have to observe the withdrawal of heavy weapons from the line and check if generally the cease-fire between Kiev security forces and the militia is respected. "

Ukrainian side, the speech of the Minister of Foreign Affairs remained very evasive.

Pavlo Klimkin:

"We are now in a situation where we have to find a real impetus for the OSCE to become truly political, and be able to act for European security and peace efforts throughout the European continent."

The Ukrainian military announced Friday that six soldiers were killed and thirteen wounded in the fighting against separatists in the east of the country over the past 24 hours.
