Greece: arrest of a man who could be the leader of the Belgian terror cell


Four arrested Saturday afternoon in Athens, and perhaps among the arrested, Abdelhamid Abaaoud, the alleged leader of the terrorist cell dismantled in Belgium.


These arrests are therefore involved less than 48 hours after the Belgian police contacted the Greek authorities to signal their presence on their soil of people involved in the attacks were being prepared in Belgium.


Fingerprints and DNA prime suspect extracts were sent to Brussels for analysis.


Security has been enhanced this weekend in Belgium, the army having for example taken over from the police in Antwerp, which has a large Jewish community.


Important also safe deployment in Brussels to several sensitive sites, such as the headquarters of NATO, the embassies of the US and Israel or the Great Synagogue.


Belgium, Germany and France, 24 arrests were made in the context of anti-terrorist investigations in recent hours.
