Channel Tunnel: traffic interrupted due to fire


Interruption of rail and road traffic in the tunnel under the English Channel this Saturday afternoon. Smoke and small flames were detected at a truck in the tunnel, causing the evacuation of motorists and blocking Eurostar passengers, as here at St Pancras station in London.


Concern of users of the Channel Tunnel:


"Can not go home in Belgium, the tail should be done and hope we can go tomorrow."


"We hope to find a room here for the night. But all the hotels I called were full so I do not know what to do. "


The fire broke out at a truck shuttle, ie a train carrying trucks and their drivers. The 42 passengers and the evacuation.


Eurotunnel said that the situation was being returned to normal and that the traffic could resume possibly as early as this Saturday night.
