Weather: vigilance maintained in France and Spain

In 24 hours, there fell the equivalent of six months of rain. Sunday, a 73 year old man had a heart attack in Rivesaltes while trying to cross a flooded car bowl. Many have lost everything. "There are a lot of damage, a lot of damage, all power tools are under water, I did nothing, we'll see," testifies, resigned, a craftsman.

The rising water has been meteoric. 3,500 people were evacuated Sunday in the Eastern Pyrenees and in the neighboring department of Aude. Many schools remained closed on Monday and hundreds of roads are partially accessible.

The two departments remain vigilant, but yellow only. While the recession seems primed, the victims all tell the same nightmare. "So we started to drain the water, and a quarter of an hour later there was a wave, and then we could not get into the house," says a young woman, in the cleaning of his flooded house.

Further east, divers always looking for a 8 year old girl reported missing Thursday in La Londe-les -Maures. Weather killed four people in the Var department, always orange alert.

The neighboring Catalonia, Spain, is not spared. The body of a young woman of 20 missing Sunday after falling into the river Llierca was found Monday. The town of Figueres was devastated.
