For the first time, the United Nations Security Council will address the violations of human rights in North Korea. The decision to bring this issue to the agenda of the Council was taken during a vote, despite opposition from China and Russia. So far, the discussions concerned only the North Korean nuclear program.
This vote comes just after the cancellation of the release of a film having displeased Pyongyang.
"Not content to deny freedom of expression to his own people, the North Korean regime now seems to want to delete this fundamental freedom in our country. This is absurd. But this is exactly the kind of behavior that we expect of a regime that threatens to take ruthless countermeasures against the United States about a Hollywood comedy, which does not hesitate to lock up Tens of thousands of people in horrible gulag "said Samantha Power, US ambassador to the UN.
North Korea has suffered for a few hours with a total cut-off access to the Internet, as Barack Obama had promised a proportionate response to hacking suffered by Sony Pictures, which produced the film behind discord. This is the most serious cyber attack ever occurred in the United States.
North Korea is one of the most repressive regimes on the planet.
