In a decade, Moscow is unrecognizable in terms of human rights. This was criticized by Human Rights Watch Executive Director Kenneth Roth on Thursday in the Russian capital. The NGO had already denounced in 2013 in a report an "unprecedented repression against the civil society in the post-Soviet history of the country."
"It's been almost a decade since I had not visited Moscow, said Roth. And it is with great disappointment that I see the worst crackdown since (the end of) the Soviet era. The radical reduction of public debate and the expression of differing views is the basis of an authoritarian regime and irresponsible adventurism. This is where issues of concern from Russia today. "
Human Rights Watch also said to have collected evidence that the Ukrainian army has used a few times of cluster bombs in eastern Ukraine. The NGO said that this did not justify the arbitrary detention, torture, execution and endangering civilians by pro-Russian forces.
