More than two hundred people gathered yesterday in Bucharest, Romania, to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the revolution. They chanted slogans such as "Free Romania" or even "keep alive the flame of the revolution." 25 years later, in fact, the euphoria of change often seems like a distant memory.
"This is Romania, which disappointed us, says one woman. We had so much hope in democracy and what we have today is a fake democracy. But we still hope with the new President Klaus Iohannis. "
December 22, 1989, the army still pulls, as before, the crowd of demonstrators, while the dictator Nicolae Ceausescu and his wife Elena have found refuge in the party central committee.
In response to the violence, the crowd threw books on the balcony of the presidential palace.
A little later, Ceausescu escape from the capital by helicopter to reach the city of Targoviste. Meanwhile, their former palace is on fire. They will be tried and executed after a summary trial on Christmas Day.
