Angela Merkel launches a new charge against Vladimir Putin. In a long interview to the conservative daily Die Welt, published on Sunday, German Chancellor believes that the Ukrainian crisis is just one example of Russia's strategy of destabilization in eastern Europe.
She recalled that the Kremlin leader also causes difficulties in Moldova and Georgia, which like Ukraine decided to sign association agreements with the European Union. These statements were published while the Chancellor should be triumphantly re-elected next Tuesday at the head of his party CDU.
In the interview, Merkel also finds that France and Italy are not doing enough to limit their budget deficits. Brussels has given in Rome and Paris a new deadline to improve their finances. "This is justified" Merkel said. "But the commission also said that what was previously on the table was not enough, with which I agree," she said.
