The origin of the festival dates back to the nineteenth century, in 1852, when the city inaugurated the statue of the Virgin Mary, to thank for saving his people from the plague. Lyonnais then celebrate the event by spontaneously with candles on their windows. The entire city is illuminated.

The tradition of candles has continued, but the city was completed in the late 1980s by animation. Historic buildings, churches, squares, streets, hills, parks are well highlighted by artists. The focus is on creating and poetry.

The party, which initially held on a single day, December 8, stretches over four evenings. As a result of its success. Visitors from around the world rush to walk down the streets of the former capital of the Gauls and admire its lights.

This year, the spell will still be waiting for you: a winter garden in the park of the Tête d'Or, a luminous forest on the Republic Square or pictorial spectacle on the place Bellecour ... Marvel and lulled by the lights of Lyon.
