Agreement in Lima on CO2 emissions reduction commitments

The 20th Conference of the Parties of the Framework UN Convention on Climate Change meets in Peru's capital on Sunday approved the basic elements of a future global climate treaty. It is to be concluded during the great Paris conference late 2015.

"Let me tell you that with all this text, it is perfect, but he respects the positions of all parties. And with this text, we all win, without exception, "said the Peruvian Environment Minister Manuel Pulgar-Vidal.

An agreement which is not enough for these environmentalists who expect more commitments and funding clearly defined in the fight against global warming.

The Lima conference that ended Friday was extended due to a split between the North and the South. These first and foremost, Brazil, China and India require to learn more about how 100 billion dollars of annual aid provided in 2020 will be met, leading financial guarantees to embark on the reducing CO2 emissions. To date, only 10 billion have been allocated.

The commitments of each country must be given by the end of March 2015. They should allow an overall reduction in emissions of 40 to 70% by 2050: an absolute necessity to achieve limited to 2 ° C rise in temperature our little blue planet.
