Lassana Bathily, a young Malian who worked in this store, obtain French nationality and the Legion of Honour in recognition of his bravery. He concealed a dozen clients and then managed to escape. Lassana proposed hostages take the elevator with him to flee, but they did not want, for fear of being spotted by the terrorist. He found them unharmed after the police assault.

Lassana lost a friend in the hostage-taking: his colleague Hyper Hide Yohan Cohen, 20, one of four victims of this terrorist attack.
