Nigerian army and Boko Haram in Maiduguri clash


In Nigeria, Boko Haram fighters attacked that night the city of Maiduguri, where they are violently clashed with the army, which had managed to repel them. Fighting continued Sunday in and around this city of one million inhabitants, where President Goodluck Jonathan had taken the day before an election meting.


Maiduguri is the capital of Borno State. The capture of the city would be a major advance for Boko Haram, which seeks to establish an Islamic state in northern Nigeria.
