The images are shocking ... In Nairobi, a school demonstration was dispersed with tear gas. The scene sparked a wave of outrage on social networks, many Kenyans expressing their anger at the police and government.
Schoolchildren, accompanied by relatives and activists gathered to protest against a housing project which threatens to encroach on part of the land of their school. The situation escalated when the children began to demolish a wall. Forty police intervened to secure the premises. Some would have been the target of stone-throwing, according to a senior officer. Two adult demonstrators were arrested. Moreover, at least five children had to be treated.
The independent authority that oversees the Kenyan police announced the opening of an investigation.
