Ebola epidemic could stop "end of 2015"

The Ebola outbreak could cease by the end of 2015, assured Friday the head of the UNMEER, the United Nations Mission for the fight against the virus.

Anthony Banbury, who took office in September and will give way to the Mauritanian Ould Cheikh Ahmed, also said that "the international community should continue its efforts."

"Given our starting point, there are 90 days, given the predictions about what we faced, I think we have to say that the global response to the Ebola crisis has been a great success over the past 90 days, said Anthony Banbury in Accra, Ghana's capital where the headquarters is located in the UNMEER.

The UN mission was established in September to steer the fight against the epidemic in the three most affected countries, Liberia, Sierra Leone and Guinea. Slightly more than 20,000 cases were registered in their territory including nearly 7,900 deaths, according to the latest report of the World Health Organization.
