DRC: the electoral law, causing serious violence was amended

The electoral law was amended in the Democratic Republic of Congo. It was she who was behind deadly disorders early this week in Kinshasa.

In an isolated meeting by a security perimeter, the 80 senators unanimously adopted the present text amending Article most contentious of the draft revision of the electoral law.

Because at the base, the draft electoral law opened the possibility of postponing the presidential election, expected to take place in late 2016, which would have allowed President Joseph Kabila, in power since 2001, to remain at the head of the State beyond the end of his term.

The amendment of the law by the Senate therefore is likely to calm the protests and crackdown, which has left dozens in DRC since Monday.
