The French humanitarian kidnapped Monday in Bangui by anti-Balaka militia, was released on Friday, as his Central colleague and both are now safe.

The head of French diplomacy Laurent Fabius met with Claudia Priest by phone and "okay" he said.

Claudia Priest, 67, arrived in CAR on January 6 for a two-week mission on behalf of the Catholic medical NGO CODIS (Diocesan Coordination of Health).

France thanked the CAR government, religious leaders including the Archbishop of Bangui to have actively contributed to the release of humanitarian.

The kidnappers belong to anti-Balaka militias, mainly Christian, which were formed to fight against the rebels, mostly Muslims, the Seleka coalition that took power in Central Africa in March 2013 before being driven out in January 2014. Both sides are accused of committing serious abuses.

The kidnapping was the first in Central since the beginning of the French military intervention "Sangaris" in this country in December 2013.
